AdMental Event Poster Competition 2023

The 2023 AdMental event is an annual event, created to harness the power of advertising to help grow our collective understanding of mental health and wellbeing. The idea for my concept is of two people overlapping and sharing one eye which is paired with the tagline “seeing things differently”. The image of the two heads overlapping is to symbolise two people going through life together, but they might see life differently due to what is going on within their own life.

We may go through life living similar lives however we all see things differently compared to one another. The eye evokes curiosity and when staring into the eye is hypnotic and can put the viewer into almost a trance. The meaning behind the poster is with the different forms of media that we are exposed to as a society, and the pressures that we face living in a society that is so demanding for perfection. People are easily influenced by this and because of this it can cause a damaging effect on our mental and physical health. Art, music, film, tv, social media and of course advertising play a leading role in what influences us; they influence our thoughts, feelings, opinions, and moods. The poster design is design to evoke curiosity so that the viewer who sees the poster is curious as to what it is the poster is promoting. It’s a simple design where the aim is for the viewer to question the meaning behind it. The design takes traditional imagery of mental health design and is portrayed in a more positive way another way to evoke curiosity.
